Website Visitors

Like most website operators, Signpost Publications collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. Signpost’s purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how our visitors use our website(s). From time to time, Signpost may release non-personally-identifying information in part or in the aggregate (e.g., by publishing a report on trends in the usage of our websites).

Signpost also collects potentially personally-identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses for logged in users and for users leaving comments on article pages and/or on Signpost’s blogs. Signpost only discloses logged in user and commenter IP addresses under the same circumstances that it uses and discloses personally-identifying information as described below, except that blog commenter IP addresses are visible and disclosed to the administrators of the blog where the comment was left.

Gathering of Personally-Identifying Information

Certain visitors to Signpost’s websites choose to interact with Signpost in ways that require Signpost to gather personally-identifying information. The amount and type of information that Signpost gathers depends on the nature of the interaction. For example, we ask visitors who sign up for a non-paying subscription or forum profile at Signpost to provide a username and email address. This information may be used to offer additional content, features, goods and/or services in the future (e.g. a user that completes a survey may be offered content of services based on the information provided in survey responses). Those who engage in transactions with Signpost – by purchasing a premium subscription, for example – are asked to provide additional information, including as necessary the personal and financial information required to process those transactions. In each case, Signpost collects such information as is necessary or appropriate to fulfill the purpose of the visitor’s interaction with Signpost, as well as to offer additional relevant products and services in the future. Signpost does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below. And visitors can always refuse to supply personally-identifying information, with the caveat that it may prevent them from engaging in certain website-related activities.

Aggregated Statistics

Signpost may collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to its websites. For instance, Signpost may monitor the most popular blogs in our Forums, or most read articles on Signpost Magazine. Signpost may display this information publicly or provide it to others. However, Signpost does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below.
